Re-opening of leisure facilities

Little girl underwater doing thumbs up

As you will be aware the Government has granted permission for the re-opening of swimming pools, gyms and other leisure facilities and I am delighted, after four long months, to be welcoming you back to our facilities.

Many of you have told us that you can’t wait to return and we absolutely share your enthusiasm for a return to a healthy lifestyle at Larkfield Leisure Centre, the Angel Centre and Tonbridge Swimming Pool.

I have so much information to share with you about how we will manage our re-opening in a COVID secure, safe and responsible way that instils confidence in our staff and you our customers and meets Government and industry guidance.  This message deals with the very broad view and focuses just on the first two weeks of re-opening during which time we can assess and amend our procedures and programme with a safety first approach.

From Monday 27 July we will re-open our indoor fitness pools at Larkfield and Tonbridge Swimming Pool.   These will be available for adult lane swimming along with some club usage and aqua exercise classes only.  All lane swimming will be bookable in 45 minute sessions with annual/direct debit and Priority Card holders having booking priority.  The outdoor pool at Tonbridge will open on the same day but will only be available for lane swimming too.  We will expect all swimmers to arrive ’beach ready’ and whilst changing facilities will be available after your swim there will be no showers.

The gyms at Larkfield and Angel Centre will also re-open on Monday 27 July with reduced capacity and once again only on a pre-booked basis for one hour sessions. It will be available only to annual/direct debit members and we do not plan to sell any new memberships during the first two weeks to assess how capacity meets demand from existing members.

At Larkfield and Angel Centre we will also introduce a revised group exercise programme on 27 July with some classes reduced in capacity and others moved to the Sports Halls and Medway Hall respectively to accommodate normal numbers. Unfortunately, we are unlikely to be able to use the immersive studio at LLC but spin classes will be moved to another studio.  As before all classes will be bookable with only annual/DD and Priority Card holders having access initially.

All other facilities will remain closed for the initial two week period whilst we assess the operation and demand.  We hope to be able to bring other facilities back in August subject to ongoing guidance and experience.  Please be aware that whilst toilets will be available there will be no dryside changing facilities.

As I mentioned I will be releasing more specific detail about procedures, programmes, bookings and COVID secure measures in place in the coming days so please keep an eye on email, our website and social media channels.

Best regards,

Martin Guyton, Chief Executive
